Tattooing has been a tradition of Tahiti for thousands of years. Native Tahitians expressed themselves by tribal markings and rituals etc. Some of the most artistic tatoos are widely used in a more modernized way but native Tahitian still embrace their custom. This article looks into the history,purpose and meaning of traditional tattoos and how the body is a social and cultural
context of tattooing in Tahiti .
